  • Fiber-optic cable from Japan to London

I read about it in Science Illustrated magazine, because of global warming, there is an opportunity to lay a fiber-optic cable from Japan to London through the Bering Strait as well as the Davis Strait. A Russian contractor will be completing the work through Russian waters. Sounds like allot of work for some lucky employee's, 9700 miles directly on the sea floor at depths more then 1,950 feet.
Although it sounds like a good use of men, resources and making use of them at the right time. I really don't think it's such a great news clip for those of us "pro earth" save the planet type people, but I am happy for the people who will now finally be able to skype.
