  • Chess boards I wish I could collect

I've been playing chess since I was 10 years old and I've been drooling over chess boards ever since. The coolest chess I've ever seen on film was in Lexx season 4 "The Game". Every time I run into neat chess sets online I'm going to post the links here.

One chess idea that I have had for years that I would love to see happen one day. I want to buy 10 - 20 tournament style boards with clocks and rent the community center in my town. I would love to host a tournament (maybe $5 - $10 to enter) with different age groups and award price money to the winner in each group and donate the remainder, like half or something, to a local charity. I see the regulation style boards with the chess notation of the sides and clocks for like $40 each on Ebay. So it would be a fairly large amount of money to start with for me, but It would be so rewarding, and just something I have always wanted to do. Both of my children and my grand kid's love the game, I think it's a great game for kid's of all ages to learn. Some day I hope to be hosting an annual event like this in my own community.

      These pix click to sources.

I think this would kind of mess with my head but more in a vertigo kind of way than an actual playing challenge.

      Minion chess!

      Chess with Ripley.

      Edible chess

While we're at it, chocolate chess

I think I went off track...

So... who goes first? Cool story with this one.

        MacGyver style.

        Mario? Gaming the game, perhaps.

        *And* it's 3D printed. Geek + hipster = geekster.

        For retro Lite Brite enthusiasts.

        Because LEGO.

Yes, it's a pumpkin. Full of tiny gourds.

This isn't creepy at all. Click to see the entire set.

Human chess. Also not creepy at all.

Or go to Myrtle Beach. We're awesome here, too.

LOL, play a game inside a game? Not sure what's going on with that. Keep your eyes on the latest Shroud of the Avatar updates.

This uber awesome WTFness clicks out to much bigger. Sorry, guys, I think it's just conceptualized chess art, but you're drooling, right? Me, too.

Cats vs dogs. Could get intense.

Rare breed chickens as chess pieces? SOLD! And many more animals to choose from when you click the pic and see the list.

Benedict Cumberbatch playing chess. You're welcome.
