Seriously, it seems like the summer just flew by this year.
Technically, of course, we're still in summer. Autumn doesn't really start until the end of September. September 23rd, I believe. But I've never really thought of August as being summer. Instead, August is kind of a season all its own. It's hot, or at least it is in my part of the world. But there's too many Back-to-School sales going on for me to really think of it as being summer. I can remember when I was a teenager, I always dreaded the first appearance of those three words. "Back to school" was a reminder that my time was not my own.
I was always painfully aware of just how short summer was. I once added up the number of days and I was quite upset to discover that there weren't even a 100 days in my summer vacation. That's changed now, of course. Now, I can basically take a vacation whenever I want and I go wherever I want. But I still can't escape the feeling that time is limited. Each day is one that I'll never get back.
So, I guess I should enjoy the rest of August and be happy that I don't have to go back to school.
