Apparently, today is Obama Day. It's the former President's birthday and I guess people on twitter have decided that's some sort of holiday because Obama's fans are definitely not members of a cult or anything like that.

Right now, people are so worried about Trump that they tend to idealize Barack Obama. In fact, the quickest way to set people off is to suggest that Obama is something less than a political messiah. However, any objective look at Obama and his administration can only lead to the conclusion that Barack Obama was a thoroughly mediocre President.

It's not just that the economy was a mess during the Obama years. It's that Obama introduced the idea that the economy is supposed to be a mess.

To say that he was naive when it came to dealing with foreign affairs would be an understatement. He somehow managed to make the Middle East an even more dangerous and unstable region than it was when he first took office.

For all of his populist posturing, Obama was a corporate candidate and a corporate President.

He not only lied about the Affordable Care Act but he smirked about it later.

He bombed the shit out of the Middle East, after winning the Nobel Peace Prize.

He destroyed his political party and his administration was so full of arrogant elitists that he basically created the situation that led to Donald Trump winning in 2016.

Finally, he normalized the idea that the President is supposed to be some sort of benign dictator, as opposed to just another elected official.

So, Happy Obama Day, I guess.

Hopefully, some day, people will stop worshiping leaders and start worshiping themselves.
